FOR THOSE INQUIRING MINDS WHO WANT TO KNOW WHEN WE USE CAMERAS AND TAKE REAL PHOTOS.
What we need to know before we take a camera out to take photographs:
Know and understand
- the relationship between lighting conditions and exposure times (beginning to understand bracketing);
- how to operate a manual camera by knowing the main parts to the camera and how they function;
- the 3 key concepts regarding exposure--
- aperture, f-stops and depth-of-field;
- shutter speeds are chosen and affect exposure times
- ISO
- TTL metering and seeking middle grays
How to
- load film and remove film safely from a camera;
- use the TTL meter with film inside the camera;
- focus on a subject and hold the camera steady
MONDAY, APRIL 3, A DAY / TUESDAY, APRIL 4, B DAY Good morning/afternoon.
Warm-Up Looking through the Lens 2 Link
Examine 3 photographs to identify the photographer's intent.
Learning Target: You can write a coherent art sentence when discussing a photograph that includes the main image referred to as an art element describing how it shows the intended design principle.
Activities:
REVIEW AND VOCABULARY
Learning Target:
We will know how to operate an SLR camera (You will work with a partner to complete handout)
THIS WEEK'S FOCUS- How to use the TTL meter and aiming for the middle gray.
and Composition in photography.
WEDNESDAY, APRIL 5, A DAY & THURSDAY, APRIL 6, B DAY
Good morning/afternoon.
Warm-Up Looking through the Lens 2 Link
Examine 3 photographs to identify the photographer's intent.
Learning Target: You can write a coherent art sentence when discussing a photograph that includes the main image referred to as an art element describing how it shows the intended design principle. Turn in today.
Vocabulary catch-up for A Day classes.
Am I In Focus? -- work with your table-mates to determine the order
Activities:
What do I want to emphasize? As I take a photo. And when I am making a print.
SLIDE TUTORIAL: CAMERA OPERATIONS AND PROCESSES- intro to composition and rule of thirds.
Learning Target: You can identify aperture and shutter speed settings in general terms or specifically when data is given.
PHOTOGRAPHY MAPPED Complete the Light Meter Exercise handout on top of the scanner. Make adjustments as noted on the "Key." If you have to make other changes to settings, include a complete explanation.
Turn into the basket when completed.
Practice film transferring.
FRIDAY, APRIL 7
Learning Targest:
You will know and understand
Review- Light Meter Handout for corrections.
Aperture and Exposure reading and handout
SLIDE TUTORIAL: CAMERA OPERATIONS AND PROCESSES- intro to composition and rule of thirds
Visual Exposure - Depth of Field This is a partner activity. You will discuss, determine the correct answer and record your answer on the sheet provided.

REVIEW AND VOCABULARY
- Finish Photography vocabulary - enlarger, tonal values, light meter, "stops". Pick up any missed terms.
- Review Camera operations and film loading. If you can identify the parts and load film into the camera then move on to the reading on metering.
Learning Target: We can operate the manual camera correctly to establish appropriate exposure settings, and take a successful photo.

Learning Target:
We will know how to operate an SLR camera (You will work with a partner to complete handout)
- What film is.
- How to turn a camera on and off
- How to focus on a subject, assess the environment light for proper exposure (white, middle grey, black).
- How you select the correct aperture setting.
- How you see the depth of field in the camera.
- How shutter speeds affect the amount of light your camera receives.
- How the aperture and shutter speed work together to get the right exposure- how to use the TTL meter
- What is meant by "the rule of reciprocity".
