FOR THOSE INQUIRING MINDS WHO WANT TO KNOW WHEN WE USE CAMERAS AND TAKE REAL PHOTOS.
What we need to know before we take a camera out to take photographs:
Know and understand
- the relationship between lighting conditions and exposure times (beginning to understand bracketing);
- how to operate a manual camera by knowing the main parts to the camera and how they function;
- the 3 key concepts regarding exposure--
- aperture, f-stops and depth-of-field;
- shutter speeds are chosen and affect exposure times
- ISO
- TTL metering and seeking middle grays
How to
- load film and remove film safely from a camera;
- use the TTL meter with film inside the camera;
- focus on a subject and hold the camera steady
MONDAY, MAR. 6, B DAY TUESDAY, MAR. 7, A DAY Good morning/afternoon.
Our Activities today:
- Warm-Up : Pinhole exposures review - LInk >>>>Exposure problem solving.<<<<<
- Visual tour of the Principles of Design- understand the definitions by looking at the examples.
Learning Target: You will know the meaning of each of the design principles and identify examples of these as they are found in photographic imagery. Presentation link>l
You can explain how the dominant art element expresses the design principle.
- Example: The stair treads are seen as the diagonal or straight lines that create the radial balance in the staircase photograph.
To complete your collage--
1- Write the complete definition of the design principle
2- Select an accurate photographic representation of the design principle from magazines.
3- Write 3 sentences for each design principle:
a) Identify the subject or main area of interest.
b) Identify the dominant art element that expresses the design principle and explain specifically how it is used. Your sentence must include the image (stair treads) interpreted as an art element (diagonal lines) that create the specific design principle (radial balance).
c) State your opinion about the photographer's intent.
Note: You can write this on a separate sheet of paper stapled to the collage.
The collage will be due Wednesday/Thursday. We will be spending some class time learning about the camera's operating parts and functions.
Score your collage with the appropriate scoring guide.
PINHOLE EXPOSURES- We will continue with these when you are finished with your collage.
Remember: We will work in rotations staying in our groups to create pinhole exposures. When you finish your single task, return to the classroom and work on your collage until your group is called for the next procedure.
WEDNESDAY, MAR. 8, B DAY THURSDAY, MAR. 9, A DAY Good morning/afternoon.
1- Activities: Drawing the camera & Identifying camera parts >>>> Camera Parts Master Photo Labeled
Slide presentation link
Learning Target: You can identify 19 key parts of the 35mm camera, which are necessary to operate it effectively.
Draw each of the four sides of the camera you are provided- Minolta or Pentax.
Use the master key to identify and label the 19 key parts.
You will be graded on accuracy in labeling and your drawing best effort. (Talent not required.)
2 - Finish the Design Principle Collage--
You will not be able to work on pinhole exposures until this assignment and the Art Element collage are completed.
FRIDAY, MAR. 10, B DAY MONDAY, MAR. 13, A DAY
SPECIAL ACTIVITY SCHEDULE
Activities:
VIDEO: BASIC 35mm PHOTOGRAPHY ~ The SLR Camera Taking Better Pictures
We will know: about the SLR camera-
- What film is.
- How you select the correct aperture setting.
- How shutter speeds affect the amount of light your camera receives.
- How the aperture and shutter speed work together to get the right exposure.
- How you see the depth of field in the camera.
- What is meant by "the rule of reciprocity".
Complete handout as you view the video. I will stop the video at key moments to allow time to capture those important concepts.
Next Tuesday & Wednesday:
SLIDE TUTORIAL: CAMERA OPERATIONS AND PROCESSES
Complete the Manually Controlled Camera reading and handout
