Learning Targest:
You will know and understand
You will know and understand
- the relationship between lighting conditions and exposure times (beginning to understand bracketing);
- how to operate a manual camera by knowing the main parts to the camera and how they function;
- the 3 key concepts regarding exposure--
- aperture, f-stops and depth-of-field;
- shutter speeds are chosen and affect exposure times
- how to set the ISO
- TTL metering and seeking middle grays
MONDAY, APRIL 10, B DAY / TUESDAY, APRIL 11, A DAY Good morning/afternoon.
Warm-Up Creating Tonal Values -
Learning Target: You can create identify tonal values in a colorful scene.
Use the handout provided to create a value scale from white, light-middle-dark grays, and black.
Then follow instructions below to identify color values in a colored photo from a magazine and interpret those color values as black, gray and white values on the tracing paper provided.
- Find a 5" x 7" photo that shows an outdoor scene with a range of color values- light greens, light reds, etc.; middle green, reds,etc. and darker greens, reds, etc.
- Glue this in the middle of your tonal value paper.
- Tape the tracing paper over the photo so it is centered.
- Identify the values in the photo and using your pencil shade the light areas on the tracing paper, move to the next value and on until you are shading the dark areas.
- Draw lines from these shaded areas to your tonal value scale.
- Label at least 5 different values; the more the better.
Activities:
Learning Target:
You can identify aspects of aperture and shutter speed settings such as depth of field and motion blur.
Aperture and Exposure reading and handout
Visual Exposure - Depth of Field This is a partner activity. You will discuss, determine the correct answer and record your answer on a sheet.
REVIEW SLIDE TUTORIAL: CAMERA OPERATIONS AND PROCESSES- refresher on key parts of the camera
- Review Camera operations
Learning Target: We can operate the manual camera correctly to establish appropriate exposure settings, and take a successful photo.

I will continue to work with students individually on this: using the TTL meter and aiming for the middle gray
- Composition and the Rule of Thirds. SLIDE TUTORIAL: CAMERA OPERATIONS AND PROCESSES- intro to composition and rule of thirds. slide 27
View the slide presentation on these concepts. - Read the packet and complete handout on composition- zigzagging.
Extra credit: Look through magazines and find 2-3 examples of each 1) effective composition and 2) the rule of thirds
This assignment could be completed by the end of class and turned in.

Activities:
Learning Target: You can operate a camera safely and set the correct f/stop and shutter speed for the intended scene to to take a properly exposed shot.
One group will go out to take photos- see the list--
- Follow the printed instructions on the bulletin board or compute.
- Take the assigned camera, turn on the camera, load film, save your canister to store your used film safely, write your name and class pd. on it, put it in the class turn in box.
- Clean up your area, return the camera turned off to the bin with the strap wrapped around it, and all supplies you used to the proper location.
One group will remain in class to work on
taking an exposure quiz link
- finishing assignments related to camera operations and exposure settings,
- learn how to process and develop film,
- learn the enlarger,
- catch up on other assignments
- and/or start the final project.
If you are done with either of these and are waiting for the next task, use this time to practice transferring your film onto a developing reel.
Learning Target: We can operate the manual camera correctly to establish appropriate exposure settings, and take a successful photo.

Return all tools and supplies to their proper places.
Filming Groups- Find your camera, read through the packet draped on computer monitor, refer to the videos if you need help at the computer, load your film, check camera functionality before you leave, get pass, exposure table, clipboard and take your scouting map. Remember to bracket at least twice.
